Raid Disk Mirroring
RAID is short for Redundant Array of Independent Disks and used to mirror data on two disk drives simultaneously to ensure data integrity. Disk mirroring protects from loss of data by instantly switching to the other disk with no interruption in service if one of the disk drives fail without requiring data restoration from a backup.
RAID also provides twice the read rate of a single disk to increase performance. When multiple requests are made for the same data, demand can be distributed between two disks therefore decreasing response time for data access.

About NAC.net’s Network
NAC realized early on that the best networks are made with top-grade equipment and skilled network engineers. They use quality network hardware and their technicians work around the clock, using such technologies as ATM and BGP dynamic routing to ensure that all systems run efficiently and smoothly. Their connections to multiple backbone providers, and peering with many carriers on a regional and international basis, allows them to easily reach remote networks even in the case where a NAP may be unhealthy, or when a specific backbone connection is down. It also allows them to make intelligent routing decisions; for example, if they are trying to reach a remote network which is on the Sprint network, there's no reason to send it out to UUNET first.
They have built and they maintain one of the largest and most fault tolerant networks in the region, composed of a full mesh of OC3 (155 Megabit) and OC12 (622 Megabit) links throughout their coverage area. They connect to Internet backbones at our redundant data centers in Northern NJ and NYC, linking directly to most of the major networks, including Sprint, UUNET, Cable & Wireless, PSI, AOL, Level 3, Genuity, and many others. By placing their core nodes at places like Equinix and Telehouse, they are guaranteed a level of competent service. All of their core nodes employ SONET networks, which essentially provides a dual-redundant, counter-rotating ring technology, and in the event of a fiber cut, the SONET will automatically heal itself. They also divide their circuits among several telecommunications providers, such as Verizon, MFS/Worldcom, and Adelphia.
